MANAGING MALNUTRITION IN A VIRTUAL WORLD

Imogen Watson, dietitian, medical and scientific affairs manager, Abbott

Executive summary

Pandemics such as COVID-19 bring challenges in terms of managing patients’ nutritional screening and intervention. However, virtual tools such as the R-MAPP App allow healthcare professionals to support patients in addressing their nutritional needs1, ultimately improving patient outcomes, as well as reducing the clinical and financial burden on healthcare systems.2 The R-MAPP App has already been used by more than 3,600 healthcare professionals in the UK and nearly 16,000 globally.

Although R-MAPP has been developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it could be suitable for other situations that require nutritional screening to be performed in primary practice.
